Review: Elf Waterproof Eyeliner Pen / Elf Wet Gloss Lash & Brow Clear Mascara

Whew! What a long title, huh?! So here’s the last installment of my ELF review series (read part 1 and 2) and it’s all about eye products!

Included in the gift that Elf gave me are the Waterproof Eyeliner Pen and Wet Gloss Lash & Brow Clear Mascara. Read on to see some of my thoughts, some swatches, and even a video of how waterproof the eyeliner really is! :)

Okay, so first I’ll talk about the eyeliner. This is my first eyeliner PEN ever. I have gel, liquid and pencil from different brands… and now PEN. Yay, my eyeliner family is a complete happy bunch now (watch out for a pictorial of my eyeliner family to be posted soon)! But then it hit me. Would I really need yet another eyeliner? I mean come on, I only have two eyes not a gazillion of them.

But then again, I didn’t have an eyeliner pen yet so I was kinda excited to try it. The moment I “road tested” it, I was amazed by how easily it glided on my lids. Like I was just drawing with a marker pen. Photo above shows some swatches I did on my hand. Three swipes on the left swatch while two swipes of the pen liner on the right. One stroke of the pen on my lash line didn’t give a totally opaque finish, it was actually sheer. But just like writing with an actual pen, the harder your strokes are, the darker it will get. So the key here is how you control your hands when applying this eyeliner pen to get your desired result.

I also took the time to video the eyeliner on my hand and see if it smudges with and without water contact since it says “waterproof”. Watch this very short clip!

VERDICT: I’m not a pro in applying eyeliner but I love how easily this pen applies on my lash lines. Now I can do the cat winged eye (something I can’t really achieve using pencil eyeliner)! It also dries up quickly and doesn’t smudge or rub off completely even with water contact. The color is not so dark at first application so if you really want an opaque black shade just swipe 3-4 more times. It doesn’t last the whole day though (but long enough plus it’s waterproof), but for the affordable price, I guess it’s pretty much acceptable. I highly recommend this to anyone who is just starting out with eyeliner pens.

Next product is this Elf Wet Gloss Lash & Brow Clear Mascara. It’s a dual ended mascara.

This end is for the eyelashes.

And this end here is for the eyebrows. Both ends have clear gel-like wet gloss and the same look on the mascara wand. Honestly, if not for the labels, I can’t tell which is which! This is the first time I have a product like this so I really don’t have much high expectations. The package says it has enriched protein conditioners combined with rapid-dry technology to create healthy looking lashes instantly. Well upon application, it did make my lashes look healthy. And for a change I’m not wearing a colored mascara because this is clear! With the eyebrow mascara, however, it gives a “wet look” on my brows which I honestly find odd (but then again that’s just me).

VERDICT: I like the clear eyelash mascara, and I can see myself really using it. But with the clear eyebrow mascara, not so much. I don’t normally touch my eyebrows or apply any makeup on it. I’m low maintenance on that aspect and the only thing I do with my brows is to have it threaded or plucked. But since this eyebrow mascara is included in this dual tube, I might as well use it from time to time to condition my brows.

Here are some photos of my eyes with the eyeliner, clear lashes mascara, and clear brow mascara applied. Just so you know, I’m not wearing any falsies. :)

As you can see, the pen eyeliner is not completely opaque with just one swipe. Also, my eyebrows are shiny and glossy because of the clear brow mascara. My eyelashes look glossy as well, thanks to the clear lash mascara.

Overall, I like the eyeliner pen and the clear eyelash mascara. However, I don’t see much relevance on the clear eyebrow mascara. That is because I really normally don’t do anything with my eyebrows. But if you’re the type who’s so obsessed with your brows, then this might be a good product for you.

Both products are available in Watsons and major department stores nationwide. Like ELF on Facebook and follow them on Twitter for updates.

So there you have it! Whew, what a long one! This concludes my ELF review series. Thank you so much ELF Cosmetics Philippines for being so generous and letting me experience some of your products! I have other ELF products that I personally bought which I still haven’t shown here. I’ll post about it soon so watch out for that! :)
