Premiere Night: The Dictator
I got to watch the exclusive Press VIP Screening of the movie “The Dictator” held last night, July 23, at Gateway Cineplex Cinema 5. The first time I saw its trailer a couple of months ago, I knew I have to watch it because it was hilarious! And to my surprise, I was among the bloggers chosen for the special advanced screening, and so I eagerly said yes to the invite! What a coincidence, noh? Btw, it will be shown in local theaters tomorrow, July 25. This I tell you - DON’T MISS IT!

Prior to the movie screening, media people and bloggers alike were treated to a small pica pica buffet and cocktails at the cinema lobby. My hungry stomach gave in and indulged in these delectable treats.

Sure we all know it was SONA yesterday, and how ironic that we watched a movie entitled The Dictator that same day our democratic country’s president gave his State of the Nation Address speech. But no, the movie itself was far from being serious… and nothing like a real life documentary of a dictator such as Marcos. In fact, it was a comedy film starring Sacha Baron Cohen (aka from the controversial movie Borat) and Anna Faris (The House Bunny).

Sacha Baron Cohen is Aladeen and an autocratic leader of the fictional Republic of Wadiya in the movie. He ensures that his country will remain free of democracy, thus resulting to oppression of his people because he controls everything. But a visit to the USA to give his United Nation speech endangered his life and leaded to his identity being stolen. Will he ever regain his power and more importantly, his beard back? Or will he just finally accept the reality that USA will now be his home forever? I will not spoil you, of course! But one thing’s for sure, the funny lines and crazy antics of Aladeen will leave you laughing from start to finish! Just please watch this movie with an open mind because it has SO MANY stereotyping, racist, and vulgar contents.

Anyway, did I mention that I haven’t watched a movie in Gateway for soooo looooong? I remember this used to be a favorite tambayan mall (this or Eastwood, actually) among my high school friends because it was conveniently located near our HS. From Katipunan LRT2 station it was just two stations away from Gateway Cubao, thus making it a perfect escape back in those carefree days. Ohh memories! :D

Back then, I already liked the state-of-the-art cinema complex of Gateway. They even have a cinema which houses La-Z-Boy chairs! I’m not entirely sure but I think they pioneered with that posh amenity here in the country. And speaking of posh, look at the elegant photo below of the Gateway Platinum Lounge! I mean, come on! Are we still in a movie house or a hotel already? Ahh-mazing!

I just really wish Gateway Mall will improve on their wi-fi service. I’m sure many people, especially students who frequent this mall, will be very thankful for it.

(Here’s an obligatory photo of me by the movie poster, haha! Thank you sir Ted for this shot)
Once again, The Dictator is showing in cinemas tomorrow July 25! Do watch it for the sheer fun and laughter! And if you’re around the area, you might as well watch it in Gateway Cineplex too. For movie screenings, check their website at http://gatewaycineplex10.com.
Before I end this post, I would like to personally say thank you to Ms. Katherine Castillo Eustaquio (Digital Marketing Officer of Araneta Center) and Sir Azrael (yay, glad to have finally met you last night) for the invite! I really enjoyed the movie and cocktail with fellow bloggers I met that night.
Till next time!
